Up Close and Personal:
The Everyday Life of the Union Soldier
Presented by James Genco
7:00 pm Thursday, October 13, 2011
West Avon Congregational Church, 280 Country Club Road, Avon CT
Avon resident, James Genco, an attorney and life-long historian, will discuss a Union soldier’s life in the Civil War as seen through the eyes of eighteen year old Private Eugene Hawley. Hawley’s letters to his family describe his three years of service as a member of the Fifth Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry and give a personal perspective on major battles, camp life, marches, and life as a prisoner of war.
